Ministry of Urban Development is launching a Mission Mode Project on e-Governance in Municipalities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in solving the problems of people in towns and cities. It is expected to improve interaction between local bodies, citizens as well as other interested groups like NGOs, RWAs, private sector, etc. Under this project state governments will be extended needed assistance to implement the project.
The following services/management functions of Municipalities will be covered in the first phase of the project:
Registration and issue of Births/Deaths certificates
Payment of Property Tax, Utility Bills
Grievances and suggestions
Building Approvals
Procurement and Monitoring of Projects
Health Programmes
Accounting System
Personnel Information System
This mission mode project will be launched in 35 cities with million plus population by the middle of next year and would be extended to 70 cities with population of 1 lakh or above by April 2006.
