So far, 12,000 people have watched different movies during the event.
The event was inaugurated with the screening of the epic film Mughal-e-Azam, in the new colour print, on November 19, 2004 and would continue upto November 27, 2004. The film was requisitioned by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting with special efforts, since the distribution rights for the Kashmir Valley were yet to be sold. During the nine-day fiesta, 12 Hindi, one Kashmiri, two Bengali, one English and six Iranian films are to be screened.
The selection of the films was made keeping in view their Kashmir theme or those filmed mainly in the Kashmir valley. The Iranian films were chosen considering the taste of the local people.
The event is the joint initiative of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Government Jammu & Kashmir. The majority of the films are from the National Films Archives of India.
The film being screened include Hindi block busters like Kashmir Ki Kali, Chandni, Kashmir, Baharon Ke Sapne, Professor, Mere Mehboob, Dil Chhahata Hai, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Mitr My Friend (English), Bub (Kashmiri), Sara Iran (Iran) and Where is my Friends Home (Iran).
The Ministry had organized a three-day Childrens Film Festival last month in Srinagar which too evoked a very good response. Encouraged by the positive response, it was decided to hold a film festival of a longer duration.
