The Department of Posts, as part of its Sesquicentennial Celebrations, is organising a Philately Exhibition INPEX 150. The three-day Exhibition was inaugurated by Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, here yesterday. The exhibition houses a variety of remarkable award winning collections of eminent philatelists and collections of National Philatelic Museum and the Army Postal Service. The Exhibition depicts very interesting aspects of the history of India into which the history of India Post in inter-twined. The Venue of the Exhibition is at WWF Auditorium, Lodi Estate.
A wide variety of themes, which are on the display, such as the erstwhile Indian States, Sports, Art & Culture and Nature, in addition to comprehensive collections on postal themes, reflects the richness of the collections of Indian Philatelists. Frame No. 9 to 12 comprises of the first issues of postage stamps of India. The collection is unique in its beauty and rarity because of its denomination value which are in the Annas (six paise were equivalent to one anna). Another interesting frame i.e. No. 13 to 20 comprises the Convention States which include four Sikh States, Faridkot, Jhind, Nabha and Patiala, on the banks of the river Sutlej and two states of Chamba and Gwalior. Frame No. 39-43 exhibits Roses, which are a symbol of love and friendship and have a universal appeal. Rose is much older than man as roses were in existence for over 40 million years ago.
The Exhibition will conclude tomorrow with the valedictory address by Shri Vijay Bhushan, Secretary, Department of Posts.
