A Chinese delegation led by Mr. Nang Guoging, Vice-Minister of State Council Information Office (SCIO) today called on Shri S. Jaipal Reddy, Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture. The two leaders felt that their ties could be strengthened through the exchange of films, media and journalists between the two nations. Shri Reddy said that the two neighbours could evolve a mechanism to ensure the availability of information on each other in a direct manner rather than through any other agency. View was endorsed by the Chinese delegation.

Earlier Shri Navin B. Chawla, Secretary ( I & B) and senior officers of I & B Ministry held discussions with the Chinese delegation. They deliberated upon the present situation of mutual exchanges in the fields of Films, media, film production and training of journalists.

Both the sides felt that a greater media coverage of events in each-other’s country was needed. Secretary ( I & B) suggested that more interaction between AIR & DD and the Chinese Radio/TV could be considered under the Asian Broadcasting Union (ABU). The two sides were in agreement that media can play a bigger role in building dosen relationship between the two neighbours. The visitors said that China could learn a lot from the Indian film Industry. In this regard. mutual reciprocity in films exchange and the possibility of setting up a common film festival could be explored.
