The Government today reconstituted the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) by retiring all its present trustees in public interest. Eight new members have been appointed in their place.

The new trustees of the IGNCA are : Shri Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Shri Salman Haider, Dr. R. Narasimhan, Shri Mrinal Sen, Prof. A. Ramachandran and Shri Ratan Tata. The Union Ministers of Urban Development and Information & Broadcasting have been appointed ex-officio trustees. While Shri Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Shri Mrinal Sen are noted film directors, Shri Salman Haider is a former diplomat. Dr. R. Narasimhan is a scientist specializing in atmospheric and oceanic sciences in the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Shri Ratan Tata is a well-known industrialist.

The previous trustees of the IGNCA who have been retired with immediate effect in public interest today are: Shri R. Venkataraman, Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Prof. Yash Pal, Shri Abid Hussain, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Shri Vidya Nivas Mishra, Dr. H. Narasimhaiah, Shri M.V. Kamath, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Ms. Anjolie Ela Menon, Ms. Sonal Mansingh, Dr. K.J. Yesudhas, Shri L.M. Singvi, Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, Dr. Vedantam Satyanarayana Sarma, Prof. P.V. Krishna Bhat and Dr. Suryakant Bali. The Member-Secretary of the IGNCA has also been retired.
