gsi generates internal resource from sponsored projects

The Geological Survey of India (GSI), a subordinate organization of the Department of Mines, has attended a number of sponsored projects in different fields of earth sciences along with its routine geo-technical investigations and earned a fair amount of revenue and goodwill. During the year 2003-04, the estimation was to earn at least 5 per cent of the allocated budget from the sponsored projects.

During July to December 2003, a number of sponsored works were undertaken by GSI. One of the important works is Project Seabed Sampling for Geo-technical scan in western off-shore basin for ONGC at a cost of Rs. 3.95 crore. It took up geological mapping of the belt of Schuppen using aerial photographs and remote sensing data for Oil India Limited (OIL) at a cost of Rs.54,000. Geo-technical and geo-environmental appraisal of Gyraspur Temple and Gwalior Fort, Madhya Pradesh sponsored by Archaeological Survey of India was taken up at a cost of Rs.51,000 and Rs.33.68 lakh respectively.

During the calendar year 2003, GSI generated internal resource to the tune of Rs.12.85 crore from its different sponsored projects.
