A one day special drive against ticeketless travelling in 167 trains on all the 16 Zones and 67 Divisions, carried out at the instance of the Union Railway Minister Shri Lalu Prasad yesterday yielded Rs. 6,35,411. The number of passengers found travelling without ticket or with improper tickets was 1645. A sum of Rs. 5,53,193 was realized from them.
The number of unbooked luggage cases detected was 1229 and the amount realized from such cases was Rs. 76,303.
The total number of cases including ticketless travelling and unbooked luggages was 2874.
The Railway Minister has ordered to carry out similar surprise checks from time to time in order to curb the menace of ticketless travelling and maximize earnings of Indian Railways.
