The Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), a production unit of Indian Railways, has turned out a prototype version of WAP-4 Locomotive with crew-friendly driver’s cab. This is intended to remove the fatigue of loco pilots (drivers) to sustain their alert-mindedness for improving safety of rail services.
After extended field trials, crew-friendly cab will be provided progressively in conventional electric locomotives being turned out by CLW.
This follows announcement made to this effect by the Railway Minister, Shri Lalu Prasad in the Budget Speech on July 6, 2004.
