The Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar says, there is need to mobilize opinion in favour of an Asian Consortium amongst all leading producing and buying countries of Asia in order to create a strong forum for effective leverage to balance sudden fluctuations in oil market. He opined that the Asian Consortium of the crude oil buying countries will be strong enough to have bargaining powers with the crude selling countries. However, efforts will have to be continued on explorations, both for oil and gas. The Minister was replying to questions put by the students during his visit to the University of Petroleum & Energy studies at Dehradun today. He advised the students to think out of the box and suggest new ideas to enhance the pace of oil exploration and development in the country. The Minister addressed the faculty and the students about the importance of specialized training and the need to patronize social awareness causes.
The Minister inaugurated the Petroleum Testing Laboratory Block set up recently as part of the drive to provide all onsite facilities within the existing campus.
Earlier he was briefed by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Parag Diwan about the role of the University as a specialized institution to prepare the young student community for manning highly specialized cadres in different Oil companies of the country.
