The Union Cabinet today gave its ex-post-facto approval for treating the 99,123 tonnes of food grain (19,997 tonnes rice and 79,126 tonnes wheat) lifted by the Government of Gujarat out of one lakh tones (20,000 tonnes of rice and 80,000 tonnes of wheat) allotted as special additional allotment made on January 29, 2001 as ‘free of cost’ to the Government of Gujarat for distribution to the families affected by the earthquake of 26.1.2001. This involves a cost/subsidy of Rs. 92.65 crore.
