. r. baalu’s efforts to get missing fishermen traced meet with success

Subsequent to a request made by the Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T. R. Baalu to the Union Defence Minister for urgent action to trace six fishermen missing since July 26, 2004, the Union Defence Minister has informed Thiru Baalu that the fishermen have been traced.

In a communication to Thiru Baalu, the Union Defence Minister has informed that on receipt of information by the Coast Guard about the missing boat RGM-4 (registration no. MDS-967), the Coast Guard launched search and rescue operation. It has been found that the boat is anchored in Bangladesh territorial water and the six fishermen are under the custody of TKNAF Police in Cox Bazaar (Bangladesh).

It has been further conveyed to Thiru Baalu that the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India and the High Commission of India, Dhaka, are taking action for release and repatriation of the crew as well as the boat.

Thanking the Union Defence Minister for the sustained efforts, Thiru Baalu has also conveyed to him the gratitude of the families of the six fishermen.
