-auction of non-core coal sales

Monday, November 29, 2004

The Coal Ministry has started sale of coal through the e-auction mode to avoid mal-practices in sale to non-core consumers. It is taking off as a pilot project in Bharat Coalfields Company Limited (BCCL) for a total quantity of 1.64 lakh tonnes of coal for the non-core sector consumers linked to the coal company. This e-auction will be open to linked non-core consumers of BCCL who have registered themselves with the MSTC which is operating as the nodal agency for the coal company.

New consumers will be allowed to bid within the quantity certified by the State authorities. E-auction was held on four dates in November commencing on November 19th. The Government would consider extension of this scheme after assessing this trial e-auction. It is envisaged as a transparent system of bidding and will give a fair chance to every consumer to get coal directly from subsidiaries of Coal India Limited.
