sunil dutt flags off desert storm rally

The Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Sunil Dutt flagged off the 3rd Rally Desert Storm at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here today. Speaking to the participants on the occasion, Shri Dutt said that the country is now emerging on the world map in the field of Motorsport and events of this nature would certainly help making it more popular amongst the young enthusiasts.

The Minister said that Indians are now entering into the sports arena which were earlier the exclusive domains of West and Motorsport is one of them. He said that these facts indicate that the sports culture is steadily developing in the country.

Shri Dutt also pointed out that the indication of any country's development is sports and therefore, all of us, the Government and the Corporate sector should make united efforts to improve the standard of sports in the country. He expressed satisfaction over the fact that some of the corporate companies have recently come forward to sponsor and groom the young players and informed that on his appeal, the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) has recently adopted Shri Hari Krishna, the Chess Player and would bear the expenditure on his training etc.

The 3rd Desert Storm Rally will cover a distance of about 1000 Kms and will run through various sectors in Rajasthan such as Pushkar, Ajmer, Sambhar etc. After covering the rocky terrain of 10 Kms at Bhati Mines, Surajkund in Haryana, the rally will proceed to Pushkar, Rajasthan tomorrow to take on the hot sands in multiple sections traversing gravel and dry wilderness for the next three days. Seventy participants, 35 each in the Car and Bike category are participating in the rally.

Shri Jayesh Desai, President, Northern Motor Sports Association, Shri Jagdish Khattar, Managing Director, Mauti Udyog Limited, Shri K.K. Paul, Commissioner of Police and Shri Kuldeep Beri of Indian Oil Corporation were also present on the occasion.
