The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) was able to recover Rs. 1,894.82 crore as EPF dues from the defaulting establishments during the last financial year (2004-05). Stating this in a written reply in Rajya Sabha, the Minister for Labour and Employment, Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that this has been possible due to the action taken under the concerned Sections of the Employees Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, Indian Panel Code and the CrPCs against the defaulters. Shri Rao said, however, as on 31st March 2005 an amount of Rs. 2,082.91 crore was pending recovery from the defaulting establishments. He said recovery is a continuing process as some establishments continue to default in payment of current dues, which has to be recovered in due course. The Minister said that the EPFO is vigilant in recovering statutory dues from all the defaulting establishments.
