The Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri E. Ahamed told the Lok Sabha today that Indian citizens living abroad do not face difficulties in getting their passports renewed or obtaining duplicate passports in the event of loss/damage of their previous passports if they provide correct information and if there is nothing adverse against them in the records.
The Minister informed that all possible assistance, including seeking of confirmation from the passport issuing authority in India leading to timely issuance of fresh passport against expired/loss passport, is provided by the Indian Mission/Post abroad. He further added that in case of an emergency, a short Validity Passport/Emergency Certificate is issued immediately to the Indian national to tide over the crisis.
The Minister was replying to a question by Shri Anjan Kr. M. Yadav and Shri Tukaram Ganpatrao Renge Patil.
