The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban Development, is presently examining various aspects related to the subject Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY). Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) was launched in 1997 with a view to provide gainful employment to urban unemployed or underemployed poor living below the urban poverty line, through encouraging the setting up of self-employment ventures or provision of wage employment. The scheme is funded in the ratio of 75:25 between the Centre and the States. The scheme is applicable to all urban towns in India and is implemented by States/UTs through the medium of Urban Local Bodies. Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozagar Yojana (SJSRY) consists of two major components, namely (i) The Urban Self Employment Programme (USEP) and (ii) The Urban Wage Employment Programme (UWEP).
The Committee headed by Shri Mohd. Salim, M.P. decided that in view of the importance of the subject Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana, which affects the lives of urban unemployed or underemployed poor living below the urban poverty line, memoranda may be invited from the public in general and experts/professionals/associations interested in the subject in particular.
All the interested persons may send five copies of the memoranda containing their opinion/views in English or Hindi on the subject to Shri K. Chakraborty, Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat, Room No. 518, Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi 110001, in a sealed cover so as to reach him on or before 25 May 2005. The Memoranda could also be faxed at No. 23019520.
The memorandum which might be submitted to the Committee on Urban Development will form part of the records of the Committee and would be treated as strictly confidential and the contents thereof may not be divulged to anyone, as such an act would constitute a breach of privilege of the Committee.
