The maximum permissible axle load on Indian Railways has been increased to 21.82 Metric Tonne.
It is also contemplated that identified freight wagons can be loaded up to the axle load of 22.9 Metric Tonne on certain identified iron ore routes as a Pilot Project for a limited period of one year, with close monitoring.
The above information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri R. Velu in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
