India and Belgium have signed a Memorandum of Understanding updating the existing Air Services Agreement (ASA) between the two countries. The delegation representing the two Governments met in Brussels on May 18, 2005 to discuss the arrangements governing the air services between the two countries.

Both delegations agreed that each country would designate one or more airline(s) to update the agreed services on the specified air routes.

It was agreed to amend the Route Schedule in order to include:

-for the airlines designated by Belgium, as points of call in India: as previous except for Mumbai or Chennai to read Mumbai and Chennai;

-for the airlines designated by India, as points in geographical Europe: in addition to the existing points, any one point of choice in Europe (without excluding EU countries) as intermediate and/or beyond point, with full fifth freedom rights.

It was also agreed that the designated airlines of each country would be entitled to operate with their own aircraft or through code-sharing arrangements, on the specified routes up to 21 (twenty one) weekly services with any passengers carrying aircraft.

Additionally, the designated airlines of both sides can operate an unlimited number of frequencies with any freighter aircraft from any point(s) in their territory to any point(s) in the territory of the other Party via any point(s) and beyond to any point(s) and vice versa.

Both delegation further agreed that the designated airlines of each country can operate 5th freedom traffic rights between points located in the other country and the points beyond, as specified in the Route Schedule, up to a total of 21 (twenty one) weekly services for passengers carrying aircraft and without limitation for full cargo aircraft.

The Indian delegation was headed by Mr. A Prasad, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Belgium delegation was headed by Mr. M.Andre Van Hove, Deputy Director General, Federal public service Mobility and Transport, Civil Aviation Authority.
