Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions is drawing up plans and strategies for the effective implementation of Right to Information Bill passed by the Parliament recently. In his speech on Sixth Global Forum on Reinventing Government, in Seoul, South Korea yesterday, Minister of State for Personnel, Shri Suresh Pachouri said that since transparency is a key pillar of democratic governance, Indian parliament has recently passed the Right to Information Bill. He said that Citizens Charters and e-governance are other major initiatives to provide to the citizens easy access to information and facilitate delivery of services by government agencies.
In his address, Shri. Pachouri said the government has decided to set up a very high level Administration Reforms Commission. This Commission will suggest required changes in Indian administrative structures and processes to make it more effective and responsive.
He also listed the number of steps India has taken in the recent past to reinvent government. Sh. Pachori pointed out that for successful implementation of government polices, civil society organization have to be made partners in the task of governance. In this connection he said that devolution of powers to Panchayati Raj bodies in India has empowered the people to have a direct say in the decision making process at the local level.
