Wednesday, May 04, 2005

The Minister of State (Independent charge) for Overseas Indian Affairs, Shri Jagdish Tytler told the Lok Sabha today that the number of Indians migrating to other countries for employment has been steadily increasing over the years. However, age-wise break-up of the data is not maintained. There are several reasons, which include shortage of manpower in several foreign countries, better salaries and working and living conditions abroad.

The Minister further told that the number of workers who were granted emigration clearance for employment abroad during the year 2002 was 3.68 lakhs, in 2003 it was 4.66 lakhs and in 2004 it has increased to 4.75 lakhs.

This information was given by Shri Tytler in reply to a question by Sh. Abdul Rashid Shaheen.
