integrating the enquiry services

Friday, May 13, 2005

In view of making the facility of rail telephone enquiry available to maximum number of telephone users, Railways are setting up Integrated Train Enquiry System which will consist of both Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) and manual enquiry provisions for dissemination of information on train running status, PNR status and availability of accommodation. This system has already been set up at Patna and Bangalore on trial basis and based on its successful working, this is now going to be set up in all the remaining telecom circles covering all the Zonal Railways. Any passenger in the telecom circle desiring to make enquiry will dial a universal number 139 as a local call without prefixing any STD code and get connected to Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS). Even for manual enquiry, he will be guided through Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS).

The above information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri R. Velu in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
