The Cabinet Secretary, Shri B.K. Chaturvedi said that the Government has been contemplating a series of administrative reforms smoothen the interface between the Government machinery and the public. These reforms include new initiatives to make the administration efficient, citizen-friendly and accountable. He stated this while presiding over the 44th meeting of the National Council (Joint Consultative Machinery). Calling for further strengthening of the JCM through appropriate measures, he said that administrative reforms are required to fulfill the aspirations of the people and also to meet the challenges thrown by globalization.

The National Council is an Apex body of the Joint Consultative Machinery for mutual discussions between the Government and the employees’ representatives on all important matters. An important fora from the angle of labour relations, it also covered various matters affecting the interest of about 30 lakh Government employees.

The official side was represented by Cabinet Secretary as Chairman and Secretaries of major employer Ministries such as Railways, Posts, Defence, and Department of Personnel and Training. The staff side was represented by All India Level Federations / Unions of the employees of these Ministries. The meeting also resolved to make concerted efforts through consultations to bring in highest standards of efficiency in the Government Sector so as to transform it into a modern professional and responsive machinery capable of delivering quick service to the public.
