With the objective of making available fertilizers to farmers at reasonable rates, urea, a controlled fertilizer and decontrolled phosphatic and potassic fertilizers are made available to farmers of the country including poor and marginal farmers at statutorily notified maximum retail price (MRP) indicative MPRs. MRP of Single Super Phosphate (SSP) is indicated by respective State Government. As the MRP/indicative MRPs are generally less than the cost of production of fertilizers, the benefit of subsidy is passed on to farmers including poor and marginal farmers in the form of subsidized selling prices.
A budgetary provision of Rs.16253.90 crore has been made for subsidy on fertilizers during 2005-06. Cost Accounts Branch of the Ministry of Finance has submitted its report on cost price study of SSP. After examination of the report, the Government is in the process of formulating a suitable methodology for working out concession of SSP.
This information was given by the Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Steel, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today .
