The Government of India has initiated steps to speed up the development of tourism in North East through financial assistance for product/infrastructure, destination development, integrated development of travel circuits, rural tourism development, large revenue generating projects, information technology support, promotion & publicity support and surveys & studies for preparation of detailed project reports. This was stated by the Minister of State for Tourism Smt. Renuka Chowdhury in reply to a question by Shri D. Vittal Rao in Lok Sabha today.
She further stated that the financial assistance for the following projects was provided during 2004-05.
