The Government is committed to make the Public Sector Enterprises strong and effective. Government will also devolve full managerial and commercial autonomy to successful profit making PSEs operating in a competitive environment. This was stated by the Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Shri Sontosh Mohan Dev while addressing the second meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry. The ad hoc Group of Experts under the Chairmanship of Dr. Arjun Sengupta had already submitted its report regarding the autonomy of PSEs and the Government was considering the same, the Minister added. Shri Dev further stated that revival and restructuring proposals of 11 PSEs directly under the Ministry have been sent to the Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises (BRPSE).
Some of the Members suggested that there was an urgent need to fill up the vacancies at the top level of various PSEs and restructuring/reorganizing some of them.
