Communication Technology, which is already playing a crucial role in providing high quality education and spreading social messages across the country, should also be used to spread literacy in rural areas. Shri Arjun Singh stated this while inaugurating a two day National Convention on Impact of Developments in Communication Technology on Educational and Social Message Communication, here today. Appreciating the role of UGC in the field of educational communication, he said, UGCs educational channels are harnessing large number of people and making India knowledge based society.
The two day National Convention has been organized by the Consortium of Educational Communication (CEC), an Inter University Centre of UGC with the support of IIMC, New Delhi, FTII, Pune, Commonwealth of Learning ,Canada, UNESCO and other Educational Multimedia Research Centres (EMRCs) of UGC.
Earlier, Prof. H.Y. Siddiqui, Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia underlined the importance of educational communication. He said that educational technologies are not only helping in the spread of education but also fulfilling our two most crucial social objectives the peace and the harmony in the society.
Mr. John Daniel, President and CEO of Commonwealth of Learning hoped in his message that new ways of using connectivity in education will lead to the free open source software movement and its application in e-learning.
The two day conference is discussing the various issues related to Information Communication Technology (ICT) in education including the impact of development of hardware and software technology in educational communication, challenges of authentic e-learning resources and social message resources, modes of delivery of e-learning and ways of networking among the educational and social message communication experts and organizations.
Mr.David Porter, Executive Director, BCcampus, Canada, Prof. G.D. Sharma, Director CEC (UGC), Ms. Tarja Viratanes, UNESCO also spoke on the occasion.
The two day convention is being attended by heads of media departments and UGCs media centres, academicians and media researchers from all over the country.
