With a view to ensure better coordination and speedy implementation of tourism projects in States, Union Minister of State for Tourism Smt. Renuka Chowdhury has convened a series of meetings with the Ministers concerned and senior officials. To begin with, meetings with Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttaranchal will be held on 5th May, 05 in New Delhi. Improvement of tourism related infrastructure landscape, transport facilities and wayside amenities are likely to be discussed during the meetings.

The Ministry has requested the State Governments to start single window clearance system for tourism projects, set up monitoring system to ensure speedy implementation of the project and enact a separate Tourism Trade Act to check harassment of tourists by unscrupulous elements. They have also been requested to deploy tourist police at all important tourist destinations. Rationalization of taxes in the hospitality sector and allocation of land for budget hotels are also likely to figure during the discussions.
