CBI UNEARTHS ILLEGAL INTERNATIONAL TELEPHONE EXCHANGE NEAR LUDHIANA; ARRESTS TWO:

The Central Bureau of Investigation today arrested two accused persons in connection with the running of an illegal International long distance set up through prepaid mobile telephone connections near Ludhiana (Punjab) and causing a loss of Rs. three crore to the Govt. of India. The case has been registered against the accused u/s 120-B r/w 420, 379 IPC and u/s 20, 20 (A), r/w Sec. 4 and Sections 21 and 25 (C) of Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 and Sec. 6 r/w Sec. of Indian Wireless Telegraph Act, 1933, on the basis of a written complaint received from the Department of Telecommunication, New Delhi.

Searches were conducted today at six places in Moga and Ludhiana. The telephone exchange, being run through 68 prepaid mobile connections, were detected and equipment like T-1 Multiplexer, Cisco Routers, Network Hub, Radio Frequency Modem, Inverter; Mobile Phone Antenna, Batteries, V-Set Antenna were seized from the house owned by one of the accused persons.

The house search of one of the accused persons also resulted in the recovery of incriminating documents and articles. Further investigation is going on.
