CBI REGISTERS DISPROPORTIONATE ASSETS CASE AGAINST MCD OFFICIAL: SEARCHES AT FIVE PLACES IN DELHI:

The CBI today conducted searches at five places in Delhi after
registering a case of disproportionate assets against a Deputy
Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation (MCD) of Delhi. During the
searches, CBI recovered cash of Rs. 30 lakh besides fixed deposit
investments worth Rs. 7.5 lakh and Rs. 14 lakh in bank accounts. Some
documents have also been recovered which indicate heavy investments in
real estates. Investigation of the case is proceeding.

As per the FIR, the accused officer was originally appointed as a clerk
in the Central Government services and later joined the MCD on
deputation. In the MCD he got absorbed in the rank of Dy. Commissioner.
It is alleged that he amassed huge assets which are disproportionate to
his known sources of income, either in his name or in the name of his
relatives or associates after joining the MCD. After joining the MCD,
the suspect officer acquired assets, including a house in Greater
Kailash, New Delhi at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh (approx.). He also acquired
a house in Naveen Sahadra, Delhi at a cost of Rs. 30 lakh (approx.) in
the name of his father. It is also alleged alleges that he is
maintaining several vehicles including a Ford Icon, a Maruti Zen and
Hyundai Accent. The suspect officer was leading a lavish lifestyle by
maintaining these cars and many servants besides incurring substantial
expenditure on the education of his daughter who is studying in a
professional college outside Delhi.

The searches were conducted in Kailash Kunj, Greater Kailash, Naveen
Sahadra and Bijli Apartments, Gujarawalan Town, Delhi.
