PRESS NOTE
Subject: Bye-elections to the Council of States from Jharkhand and Kerala to fill up the vacancy occurring due to the election of sitting member Shri Stephan Marandi in Jharkhand egislative Assembly and resignation of Shri K. Karunakaran.
Two vacancies have occurred in the Council of States from the State of Jharkhand and Kerala due to the election of sitting members Shri Stephan Marandi in Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on 16th March, 2005 and resignation of Shri K. Karunakaran on 2nd May, 2005 before the expiration of their term of office, which was upto 7th July, 2010 & 2nd April, 2010 respectively.
The Election Commission has decided to fill up the above mentioned vacancy in accordance with the following programme :-
1. Issue of Notification : 17.05.2005 (Tuesday)
2. Last date of making nominations : 24.05.2005 (Tuesday)
3. Scrutiny of nominations : 25.05.2005 (Wednesday)
4. Last date for the withdrawal of candidatures : 27.05.2005 (Friday)
5. Date of poll : 03.06.2005 (Friday)
6. Counting of Votes : 03.06.2005
(Friday at 5.00 P.M.)
7. Date before which election shall be completed : 06.06.2005 (Monday)
