Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Panchayati Raj has condoled the untimely demise of Shri Sunil Dutt, Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports at Mumbai today. In a condolence message Shri Aiyar recalled the qualities of Shri Dutt as an able politician, veteran actor and a dedicated social worker. He said that in his death the country has lost a true son who made an invaluable contribution to society on many fronts. Shri Aiyar made special mention of Shri Dutt’s efforts in promoting communal harmony, spreading AIDS-awareness and his contribution to the cause of cancer treatment. Winner of several awards for his excellence in Films and contribution to International Peace, Shri Dutt was currently engaged in taking the youth of India to the heights of glory in international sports events.
Shri Sunil Dutt’s, last public function was organized only a few days ago on 19 May at Kanpur by the Society for Secularism of which Shri Aiyar is the founder President in which Shri Dutt was presented the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Excellence in Secularism – 2005. “I am relieved that this richly merited Award was presented to Shri Sunil Dutt during his life-time”, Shri Aiyar said.
