AFTER 25 YEARS FINALLY TWO CWC OFFICIALS AND NINE OTHERS SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT.

The Special Judge, Lucknow has convicted two Central Ware
Housing Corporation (CWC) officials and nine private persons
and awarded them two years rigorous imprisonment each with
fine. The judge awarded two years rigorous imprisonment and
total fine of Rs.25,000/- to Shri Vijender Singh, Technical
Assistant, CWC and to Shri A.D.Dwivedi, Junior Technical Assistant,
CWC and two years rigorous imprisonment with a total fine
of Rs.25,000/- each to S/Shri Sharvan Kumar Aggarwal, Shiv
Kumar Aggarwal, Hare Ram Pandey, Pradeep Kumar Kedia, Anant
Mohan Katta, Jaishree Prasad, Jai Prakash Prasad, S.M. Aggarwal
and Govind Kaviraj for causing financial loss to the public
exchequer.
The case was registered on 23/10/1980 against Shri Vijender
Singh, Technical Assistant, CWC, Gorakhpur, some fertilizer
dealers and others on a complaint from the General Manager,
CWC, New Delhi alleging that they had obtained illegal pecuniary
advantage by showing ante-dated deliveries, after the upward
revision in the fertilizers prices from zero hours on 8.6.1980
and caused financial loss to the Government of India. On completion
of investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet on 22.12.1981 against
three officials of the CWC and 16 private persons for various
offences punishable under the IPC and the P.C. Act for causing
wrongful loss of Rs.3,86,043/- to the Government. The court
framed charges against the accused persons on 1.10.2001.
One public servant and two private persons had died during
the course of the trial. Five private persons were acquitted
giving them the benefit of doubt.
