The noted Hindi litterateur and Editor of ‘Hans’ magazine, Shri Rajendra Yadav today said that over the last six decades, Aajkal has served as a vibrant platform for the writers, readers and well-wishers of Hindi language. He was the Chief Guest at a special function held to commemorate 60 years of uninterrupted publication of ‘Aajkal’, the leading Hindi literary magazine brought out by the Publications Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Shri Rajendra Yadav also released the special anniversary issue of Aajkal. Shri Manager Pandey was the Guest of Honour on this occasion.

The seed of Aajkal (Hindi) was sown in 1943 when the popularity of Aajkal (Urdu) was on the upswing. The first issue of this journal came out in May 1945. Since then there has been no looking back. Aajkal has been constantly upholding the classical traditions and values associated with the literature and culture of the country, especially Hindi literature. The journal has strived to keep alive the essential elements of Indian culture and literature in India, particularly at a time when electronic media is overwhelming the creative energy of Hindi literature.

During the last 60 years, Aajkal has been enriched by the contributions of legendary litterateurs viz. Rahul Sankrityayan, Dinkar, Hazari Prasad Dwiwedi and Bhagwat Sharan Upadhyaya. Aajkal has been fortunate to have literary figures like Devendra Satyaarthi, Chandra Gupt Vidyalankar, Manmathnath Gupt and Dronvir Kohli as its Editors.

To commemorate the 60th Anniversary, Publications Division has brought out the Diamond Jubilee Special issue of Aajkal. Evaluating the multifarious forms of Hindi literature, this issue highlights young story writers’ competition, memoirs and write ups of veteran litterateurs and editors, and critical evaluation of some aspects of Hindi literature. Besides, the issue also focuses on short stories, poetry, book reviews and essays.

The august gathering was also addressed by the Principal Information Officer, Smt. Shakuntala Mahawal, the Joint Secretary (P&A), Min. of I & B, Shri P. K. Tripathi, the Director, Publications Division, Shri U. K. Misra, and the present Editor of Aajkal, Shri Pravin Upadhayay.
