The Government has advised Groundnut farmers to use improved varieties of quality seeds recommended to specific regions and areas. Agricultural experts have advised seed treatment for better results.
· Seed treatment with rhizobium and phosphate solubilizing micro organism.
· Seed treatment with Carbendazin @2g/kg seed or Mancozeb @ 3g/Kgseed or Trichoderma @ 4g/kg seed for controlling seed borne fungal pathogens.
· Soil amendment with castor cake @ 500 kg/ha for controlling soil borne pathogens causing stem and collar rots.
· Spray of neem seed aqueous extract (5%) or crude need oil (2%) in Teepol for controlling foliar fungal diseases.
Experts have advised use of secondary and micro-nutrients for deficient soils.
· Soil application of 10 kg of Zn So4 (Zinc Sulphate) per hectare followed by foliar spray of 0.2% in Zn deficient soils.
· Incorporation of Borax in the soil 2.5 5.0 kg per hectare in Boron deficient tracts of Bihar and Karnataka States to avoid hollow heat.
· Soil application of Fe EDTA or Fe SO4 or foliar spray of 0.5% Fe SO4 in Iron deficient soils of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
· Apply Sulphur in addition to recommended fertilizers, in sulphur deficient soils.
Experts have also advised to follow Integrated Pest Management (IPM) measures for diseases and pests control. Ridge sowing/Broad Bed furrow, criss-cross method of planting for red soil areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Medium black soils of Maharashtra. Polytheme mulch technology in summer for Tungabadhra river command areas of Karnataka, Kutch-Buch areas of Gujarat and IGNP areas of Rajasthan. Intercropping with pigeon pea, seasame and castor under drylands.
Advisory for Sugarcane
The Government has also advised to adopt micro irrigation system in the states, which do not have sufficient water.
· Proper monitoring and management should be undertaken for white woolly aphids particularly in the state of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
· Dipping of Sugarcane setts in hot water at 52%C for 1.5 to 2.00 hours followed by treatment with mercurial fungicides is helpful in obtaining healthy crop.
· Application of 6.2 litre of Gama BHC (20 EC) or Chloropyriphos 20% EC @ 5 litre per ha by making a solution in 18 litre of water and its spray over the setts in furrows/trenches help in encouraging the problem of termite/shoot borer.
