In addition to National coaches and those engaged by Sports Authority of India, Government has approved the appointment of 14 foreign coaches.

Systematic approach is adopted to select and train athletes and teams for participation in the Commonwealth Games by drawing Long Term Development Programme (LTDP) to put in action four year roll-on Plan under which elite sportspersons selected on the basis of their performance are put through scientifically designed continuous training programme. The current LTDP has been focussed on our achievements in Commonwealth and Asian Games in 2006.

The final action plan/LTDP for 2010 Commonwealth Games will be made after assessing India’s performance in Commonwealth and Asian Games, 2006.

This information was given by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Overseas Indian Affairs, Shri Jagdish Tytler in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
