task force constituted to assess the status of basic scientific research in universities

The Government has constituted a Task Force to assess the status of scientific research and training in Universities and to determine the areas of concern. The Task Force will suggest solutions and strategies to retrieve and enhance the excellence of Universities in the areas of scientific research and training. It will also make an assessment of the resources required both in physical and financial terms to implement these solutions and their modalities.

Prof. M.M. Sharma will be the Chairman of the Task Force. The other members are Prof. G. Mehta, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; Dr. Kota Harinarayana, Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad; Dr. S.P Thyagarajan, Vice Chancellor, University of Madras; and Prof. P. Rama Rao, ARCI, Hyderabad. Prof. Ved Prakash, Secretary, UGC will be the Convenor. The Task Force will submit its report within a month.
