The Government has taken several steps for upgradation of the skill of the workers with a view to be competitive in the present labour market. The skill training measures include testing and certification of skill of workers obtained through informal means.
Stating this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, the Labour & Employment Minister Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that the following schemes have been taken up to enhance the skill of workers:
1. Upgradation of 100 existing ITIs for providing higher skilled labour force;
Establishment of new ITIs and strengthening and modernisation of existing ITIs in the Northe Eastern States including Sikkim; and
Modernisation and strengthening of the Craftsman Training Scheme in Jammu and Kashmir.
