Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Minister of Rural Development has called for stern action against those non performing bank branches which have failed to disburse funds under Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana(SGSY). The Ministry of Rural Development has obtained branch-wise information from all over the country and found that about 750 bank branches in the country have not disbursed any amount for SGSY beneficiaries. The matter was taken up with the Ministry of Finance who have since directed the concerned bank managements to initiate action against branch managers of non-performing branches and has further asked State Level Bankers Committee to specifically take up the cases of these poor performing bank branches.
In order to ascertain ground realities on regular basis, the Ministry of Rural Development has developed a software for on-line branch-wise reporting of the performance of the SGSY from various districts of the country. The software has already been placed into operation. It is expected that the Ministry would be able to know month-wise data on branch-wise performance under SGSY.
It might be noted that the Ministry of Rural Development has been implementing the self employment programme namely, Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana wherein the beneficiaries falling below poverty line are provided loan and subsidy. The subsidy is provided by the Ministry of Rural Development through DRDAs and the loans are sanctioned by the bank branch of the concerned service area.
