The National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREG) Bill, 2004 was introduced in the Lok Sabha by the Government on 21.12.2004. It has been referred to the Standing Committee on Rural Development by the Speaker of Lok Sabha for examination and its recommendations.
As per the provisions contained in the NREG Bill, 2004, the Village Panchayat is required to make available all relevant documents including muster rolls of labourers etc. to the Gram Sabha for conducting their social audit. Besides, a list of persons who are provided with the work is also required to be displayed on the notice board of the Village Panchayat for inspection by any interested person.
This information was given by Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Minister of Rural Development in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
