The Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri E. Ahamed told the Rajya Sabha today that the Government of India has agreed to start the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service across the LoC from 7th April, 2005. Travel will be by an entry permit system, after obtaining details of the travelers and verifying their identities and other information, as is normally done for a passport and visa. This travel is open to all Indian and Pakistani nationals, he added.
Replying to a question by Sh. R.S. Gavai, Smt. Bimba Raikar, Sh. T.S. Bajwa, Sh. Uday Pratap singh & Smt. Sushma Swaraj, the Minister further added that the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad link would significantly enhance people-to-people contact across the LoC. The LoC is not a recognised international boundary and the system floowed does not compromise our position on the issue of Jammu & Kashmir. Travel on the bus would be allowed only after due procedure and checks to prevent misuse.
