The Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Sunil Dutt today felicitated the Principals of several schools here today which had collected funds for Tsunami Relief Fund. It may be recalled that Shri Dutt had issued an appeal to the youth to contribute their time and efforts for joining relief work for the tragedy struck people. To generate awareness about the cause, Nehru Yuvak Kendra Sangthan had organized a mammoth meeting of Delhi students in Nehru Stadium where Shri Dutt had appealed to the students to do their best for the victims of the Tsunami tragedy.

A sum of Rs. 60 Lakh has been collected by the School children as well as the volunteers of the National Service Scheme, Nehru Yuvak Kendra and Sports Authority of India etc. This sum also includes contributions from the employees of the Ministry and its bodies.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister also gave his best wishes for the success of Naraian Karthikeyan, the first Indian in Formula One racing and Tennis Star Sania Mirza and said that they are the new youth icons who represent the emerging sports face of India. He expressed the confidence that success of these young people would help in developing ‘sports culture’ in the country.

Smt. Meenaxi Anand Chowdhery, Secretary, Youth Affairs & Sports thanked the Principals present on the occasion and hoped that the cooperation between the Youth Affairs Ministry and Schools will continue in future also.
