RITES Ltd., has been awarded a prestigious contract under the international competitive bidding from Afghanistan Reconstruction and Development Services (ARDS), Ministry of Reconstruction, Transitional Islamic state of Afghansitan. RITES shall be providing procurement facilitation services to ARDS under World Bank funded Public Administration and Capacity Building Project for three years. RITES Team has been positioned at Kabul since December, 2004 to assit the Afghanistant authorities to put in place emergency procurement capacity to facilitate rapid and transparent utilization of donor resources for reconstruction and development. RITES experts assist the Line Ministries in Afghanisatn in carrying out the procurement of goods, works and services under operations financed by International Development Association (IDA), IDA-administrated Trust Fund, non-IDA funding contracts including local funding.
Earlier, RITES was involved in the detailed survey and soil investigation of 220 KV Transmission line between Kabul and Pulekhumri (220 km) and 220/110 kv substation at Kabul in Afghanistan.
Besides, the hostile climatic conditions and difficult terrain, major impediment to the field studies was the land mines littered along the project route. Assistance was provided by United Nation Mine Action Center of Afghanistan (UNMACA) and the local people to the RITES team.
In addition, the US army helicopter was arranged by the Government of Afghanistan for aerial survey of the 140 km snow covered Salang range.
