record all time high freight loading

Friday, March 11, 2005

Indian Railways loaded 541.97 Million Tonnes (MTs) of revenue earning freight, a record all time high loading, during the eleven months ending February, 2005 of the current fiscal year, exceeding the target of 525.95 MTs by 16.02 MTs. It also registered an incremental loading of 38.27 MTs over the corresponding period of the previous year, when 503.70 MTs freight traffic was carried.

In view of the spurt in loading, the original loading target fixed at 580 million tonnes has since been revised to 600 million tonnes.

The excellent performance of freight traffic is indicative of the buoyancy in the core sector of national economy.

During February, 2005, a total of 50.21 MTs of revenue freight was carried compared to 47.68 MTs during the corresponding month of the last year, registering an increase of 2.53 MTs. The target of 46.57 MTs for the month was exceeded by 3.64 MTs.
