The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T. R. Baalu has approved reconstruction of four minor bridges on National Highway 67 and 209 in Tamil Nadu.
On NH 67, approval has been granted for reconstruction of four-lane divided carriageway minor bridge with footpath at km 306/10 between Coimbatore and Karur. Widening of existing road to four-lane in km 306/842 to 307/120 and in km 306/700-823 on Coimbatore and Karur side respectively has also been approved. An amount of Rs. 103.3 lakh has been approved for theses works. The daily traffic on this section is 20747 Passenger car Units (PCUs).
On NH 209 that starts from Dindigul and goes upto Bangalore, Thiru Baalu has approved reconstruction of three minor bridges at km 221/8, 241/2 and 260/10 respectively at a cost of Rs. 301.71 lakh. The existing bridges on these locations were old, weak and not suitable for present day traffic level of 29890 PCUs.
