raising women’s battalion for un peacekeeping assignments

The United Nations has been encouraging increased participation of women in UN Peacekeeping, and Government of India has been making efforts to deploy more lady officers from the military and police in U.N. Peacekeeping assignments. There is, however, no proposal for raising a women’s battalion for the purpose of tackling natural calamity related aftermath and peacekeeping assignments with the UN.

This information was given to Lok Sabha today by the Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Rao Inderjit Singh in reply to a question by Smt. Sumitra Mahajan.
