The estimated production of fertilizers during January 2005 was 18.74 lakh MT of urea and 4.53 lakh MT of DAP as against the target of 17.38 lakh MT and 4.88 lakh MT respectively. Availability of urea was satisfactory in all the States. DAP production during the month was 4.53 lakh MT as against the target of 4.88 lakh MT, which was about 93% of the target during the month. Similarly, production of DAP and complex fertilizers was less than the target due to limitation on account of raw material availability.
However, the overall availability of urea and other decontrolled fertilizers in the states has been satisfactory. Cumulative production of urea and DAP during April 2004-January 2005 was 172.78 and 44.89 lakh MT against the target of 164.79 and 56.53 lakh MT respectively.
During January 2005, 18.91 lakh MT urea was despatched to the States against the target of 18.70 lakh MT. Cumulative availability of urea during the current Rabi season by the end of January 2005 has been 84.23 lakh MT and availability was satisfactory in all the States. So far, no state has reported any shortage. Further, the sale of urea during Rabi 2004-05 upto 31.1.2005 was 77.72 lakh MT which was higher by about 6.4% as compared to the sale of 73.04 lakh MT in the corresponding period of the previous year.
As regards, decontrolled fertilizers, cumulative availability of DAP and MOP during the current Rabi 2004-05 season, by the end of January 2005 has been 32.90 lakh MT and 9.83 lakh MT respectively, which was adequate to meet the demand of the States.
