Exports of Finished Carbon Steel during April-February 2005 have been estimated to be 3.3 million tonnes as compared to 4.084 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year, a reduction of 19.2%. The reduction in exports is due to increase in domestic demand.
SAIL has chalked out a strategy to strengthen its presence neighbouring export markets. Its share of total exports in neighbouring markets (viz., Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Sri Lanka) has increased to 50% during the period April to February, 2005, as compared to 30% during the corresponding period of the previous year.
This information was given today in the Lok Sabha by the Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Steel, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan in a written reply to a question.
