After the corporatisation of MTNL as well as BSNL, the issue of absorption of senior officers(in Group A Service) was under consideration of the Government. These officers belong to the Indian Telecom Service(ITS), Telegraph Traffic Service (TTS), Telecom Factory Service(TFS), Post & Telegraphs Accounts and Finance Service (P&TAFS), Posts & Telegraphs Building Works Service and General Central Service. The Government has now decided that these officers would be absorbed in BSNL and MTNL with effect from 1.10.2000 at their option.
The letters of offer inviting options from these officers have been issued to corporations and other cadre controlling authorities, also indicating the general terms and conditions governing the absorption. These have been posted on the Department of Telecom web site (www.dotindia.com) for easy access of the necessary documents to enable the officers to exercise their option quickly.
The entire process of inviting options from the officers for their absorption is expected to be completed within eight weeks as per the indicated time schedule. The Government has recognized telecom services as an important sector in the process of ‘Bharat Nirman’. The absorption of senior officers in MTNL and BSNL would enable these corporations to play their rightful role in the nation building process.
