Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has been awarded Level-9 certification under the protocol of International Safety Rating System (ISRS), one of the most prestigious Loss Control Management Systems benchmarking tools, by the globally reputed auditing and consulting agency M/Det Norske Veritas AS (DNV), Norway. It is worthwhile to mention that in March 2003, the Company was awarded ISRS Level-8 certification at the baseline audit itself in a relatively short period of less than a year of initiation. From then on the employees carried forward the task of developing, establishing, maintaining and continually enriching large number of advanced systems and practices to achieve the target of Level-9 in a scale of 1-10. In a brief function at New Delhi on 7th March 2005, Mr. KF Dhoondy, Country Manager, Technology Services – India, Region Asia Pacific, DNV formally presented the ISRS Level-9 certificate to Mr. B.K. Das, Managing Director, NRL. Out of all Indian Petroleum Refineries, both in public and private sector, NRL is the third Refinery who could qualify and presently one among only two to have such a coveted currently valid certification.

Only a few years back NRL achieved the distinction of being awarded three major certifications – ISO 9001:2000 for Quality, ISO 14001:1996 for environment and OHSAS 18001:1999 for Occupational Health & Safety, simultaneously within a year of implementation. These certifications together with the award of ISRS Level-9 by an international agency position NRL in the top few in the country in the field of safety & environment friendly operations and come as an explicit articulation of the values that drive the organization’s policies and the commitment of employees to excel.
