The nominations for the Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Conservation Award for the year 2005 have been invited by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India.
The Award is given each year in individual and institution categories in recognition of outstanding scientific and field work in the area of wildlife conservation, protection and management and consists of a cash prize of Rs. one lakh, a citation and a medallion or trophy.
Any recognized institution, individual or Government and forest staff of India, engaged in scientific or field work for the protection and conservation of wildlife is eligible for nomination.
The term wildlife is interpreted in the broadest sense possible. The areas of work for the nominations include outstanding scientific work and field work for preservation and conservation of wildlife, especially the endangered species; wildlife planning and management; control and checking of illegal poaching of wild animals and their products, protection of wildlife and human lives and property from wildlife without harming wildlife; awareness, motivation and extension work; wildlife education, published literature and research; eco-development planning and implementation; and captive breeding and zoo management.
The last date for receipt of nominations is 15th April 2005. The nominations may be sent to the Director, Wildlife Preservation, Ministry of Environment & Forests, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi 110023.
